MinterEllison — 2026/2027 Sydney Clerkship Program

MinterEllison is one of Australia’s largest independent law and consulting firms, with a heritage of almost 200 years. The firm is recognised for its legal and consulting expertise, client relationships, and commitment to shaping the future of legal practice.

Through the MinterEllison Clerkship Program, students gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced lawyers on real client matters. Vacation Clerks are exposed to complex legal work, innovative legal technology, AI-powered tools, tailored development sessions, and different practice areas to support their career direction.

Clerks are supported by a partner, supervisor and buddy, and have the opportunity to experience MinterEllison’s people, clients and work in a collaborative and high-performing environment.

Eligibility: Applications are open to law students, including international students who have the right to work full-time in Australia during the clerkship and will have full and unrestricted work rights in Australia upon graduation. Penultimate or final-year status is desirable, but not required.

Ashurst — 2026/2027 Sydney Seasonal Clerkship Program

Ashurst is a global law firm with a legacy spanning more than two centuries and 31 offices worldwide. The firm advises corporates, financial institutions and governments on complex and high-profile matters across a broad range of sectors and practice areas.

The Ashurst Seasonal Clerkship Program offers students meaningful legal work, practical learning and structured support. Clerks gain exposure to practice areas including Disputes, Investigations & Advisory; Corporate Transactions; Projects, Energy, Environment & Resources; Real Estate; and Finance.

Students will have the opportunity to contribute to real-world legal work, develop their legal and commercial skills, participate in workshops and social events, and learn alongside experienced legal professionals in a global firm environment.

Eligibility: Penultimate or final-year law students with sufficient lawful working rights to work in Australia during the clerkship period.

Clayton Utz — Seasonal Clerkship Program

Clayton Utz is one of Australia’s leading commercial law firms, offering penultimate-year law students the opportunity to gain practical experience in a full-service commercial legal environment.

The Clayton Utz Seasonal Clerkship Program allows students to experience life at a top-tier firm while working on real matters, including high-profile transactions, litigation, pro bono initiatives and client work. Clerks complete rotations across two practice areas, helping them explore different areas of commercial law and develop a clearer sense of their future career direction.

Students are supported throughout the program by a Partner, coach and buddy in each rotation. The program also includes tailored professional development, practical learning opportunities, exposure to innovative legal technology such as Harvey and Lexis+ AI, and opportunities to engage with the firm’s pro bono, community, social and sporting initiatives.

Eligibility: Designed for penultimate-year law students.

Gadens — Clerks@Gadens Program

Gadens is a leading independent Australian law firm offering clerkships across its Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney offices. The Clerks@Gadens program gives students the opportunity to gain practical experience in private practice while learning more about the firm’s people, clients, practice groups and culture.

Clerks work directly with Partners and experienced Lawyers, gaining exposure to meaningful legal work in their preferred area of law. Each clerk is supported by a dedicated Mentor and Buddy throughout their rotation, with opportunities to learn more about Gadens’ wider community impact and professional environment.

Eligibility: Penultimate and final-year JD or LLB students.
Locations: Sydney
Sydney clerkship intake: November 2026 to February 2027
Application requirements: CV, cover letter, academic transcript and responses to short questions. Psychometric testing is not required.
Sydney applications: Open Wednesday 10 June 2026 and close Sunday 12 July 2026.

Gilbert + Tobin — 2026/2027 Sydney Summer Clerk Program

Gilbert + Tobin is a leading Australian corporate law firm known for its challenger mindset, high-performing culture and work on complex legal and commercial matters. The firm offers students the opportunity to work alongside some of Australia’s most talented corporate lawyers and gain exposure to matters involving major clients, emerging technologies, climate change and significant market developments.

The G+T Sydney Summer Clerk Program is designed for ambitious students who want to build their legal careers in a dynamic corporate law environment. Clerks are encouraged to bring curiosity, authenticity and initiative to the recruitment process and, if successful, to their clerkship experience.

Eligibility: Penultimate or final-year students completing an Australian law degree. Applications are currently limited to Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents.

Application requirements: Application form, screening questions, CV and academic transcript. Students studying law as a postgraduate or double degree should also include transcripts for their other degree/s.
